71. Gënzefest zu Wolz / Reportage Nadine Kremer

Everywhere in Wiltz, people could see the beautiful yellow flowers of the broom shrub (Gënz).

Thousands of people had travelled up to Wiltz to enjoy the beautiful weather and the colourful procession.

The highlight of the Gënzefest (broom celebration), also called "Geenzefest" in Wiltz, is always the procession. Part of the parade was, of course, the "Gënzekinnigin" (broom queen) Adelisa Adrovic, who, alongside her ladies of honour, is pleased to be allowed to represent Wiltz for the next year. All in all, the procession consisted of 35 floats and groups who made their way though the old Town Centre of Wiltz. The 2019 slogan of the celebration was "Visit Éislek".

Wolz war um Päischtméindeg erëm ganz Giel. Scho fir déi 71. Kéier gouf d'Gënzefest an der Ardennen-Haaptstad gefeiert.

The former Mayor and current Minister, Romain Schneider, believes that Gënzefest changed with the times. It is now different and the organisation is more modern.

What has not changed is the character of the broom flowers, the golden hues of the flowers as symbol and, beyond that, the fact that on the day of the Gënzefest you can see all of Wiltz' people together.

The organisation of Gënzefest is a lot of work. Following the question about weather there are enough volunteers an visitors for the event, Wiltz councillor, Patrick Comes, stated that it was becoming increasingly difficult. Volunteers who have time and can help are much needed. Finally, Patrick Comes is proud, nonetheless: yea on year, the Gënzefest remains a success and attracts many people to Wiltz.
