
SERIOUS COLLISION – A severe collision between a Luxembourg bus and a car occurred in the German Eifel region on Tuesday afternoon, leaving the bus driver seriously injured and the motorist in life-threatening condition. According to preliminary reports, the accident is believed to have followed a failed overtaking manoeuvre by the car, with both vehicles eventually coming to a halt in a roadside ditch. Two further people, seated in the car at the time of the crash, also sustained minor injuries. Emergency services deployed to the scene included a helicopter from the Luxembourg Air Rescue, which helped rush the motorist to a hospital.
CONSTRUCTION RECOVERY – The Luxembourg construction sector is showing signs of recovery, with recruitment picking up after a downturn in 2024. Following a challenging year marked by multiple bankruptcies, the industry has begun hiring again, according to a recent study by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC).
TRAFFIC FINES – A staggering 17.9% of traffic fines issued in Luxembourg over the last five years have gone unpaid, amounting to over €26.5 million lost to the government. Last year alone, nearly one in five fines issued during the year went unpaid.

According to Ukrainian sources, President Zelensky could sign the deal on a trip to Washington as early as Friday – a timetable confirmed by Trump. The deal would see Ukraine trade rights to rare minerals in exchange for continued aid.
UK DEFENCE – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has pledged to boost defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027 ahead of talks with US President Trump in Washington. It will be seen as an attempt to appease the US president who has demanded that European powers pay more for their own security.
GAZA CEASEFIRE – Israel has agreed to release Palestinian prisoners who were due to be freed last week in exchange for the bodies of four Israeli hostages today. On Sunday, Hamas accused Israel of endangering the Gaza truce by delaying the release of 600 Palestinian prisoners. Israel justified the delay by citing concerns over how the hostages have been freed, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu describing the process as “humiliating ceremonies”.
TERROR VERDICT – A verdict is expected today in the trial of a Tunisian man, who stabbed three people to death in a church in the southern French city of Nice as part of a “terrorist” plot. Brahim Aouissaoui is accused of being behind the murderous rampage in October 2020 and faces life imprisonment.
FOOTBALL – A big win for the women’s national team in the Nations League last night: Luxembourg beat Lichtenstein 7-0. After two games, the Red Lionesses are in second place in Group 3 of League C. The team will next play Armenia on 4 April.
In the German Cup, it is the last quarterfinal match between Leipzig and Wolfsburg tonight. Yesterday, Bielefeld won 2-1 against Bremen.
In the Spanish Cup, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid drew 4-4 yesterday. Today, Real Sociedad play against Real Madrid.
