Despite the summer months being far off, many in Luxembourg are already mapping out their holidays.
While summer is still months away, many Luxembourg residents are already planning their holidays, taking advantage of early booking opportunities to secure discounted flights and hotel rates.
Traditional favourites such as France, Italy, and Spain continue to dominate the list of preferred destinations. However, in 2025, Japan has emerged as a particularly popular choice, buoyed by the allure of the World Expo. According to the Luxembourg Tourism Union (ULT), the travel market has never been more diverse.
In an interview with our colleagues from RTL Télé, ULT director Lydia Heinisch highlighted the growing appeal of Northern Europe, which is attracting an increasing number of travellers, including hiking enthusiasts and those seeking quieter, less crowded destinations. Additionally, cruises – both river and sea – remain a favoured option among Luxembourg residents. Cruises are especially appealing to families, as they often include all expenses, minimising unexpected costs during the trip.
Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) reveals that Luxembourg residents took 2.8 million leisure trips in 2023, averaging 5.5 trips per person and totalling 36 overnight stays annually. On average, residents spent €169 per night on their travels.
