Luxembourg
ACTIVE MANHUNT – Authorities in Luxembourg are searching for two people who attempted to blow up an ATM in the Kayl/Tétange area. The suspects fled the scene and remain at large. Police have launched an active manhunt and are urging the public to avoid picking up hitchhikers in the Kayl, Tétange, and Rumelange areas. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals immediately by calling the emergency number 113.
NATIONAL RESISITANCE DAY – Luxembourg commemorated National Resistance Day on Sunday, honoring the 23 resistors executed by the SS in 1944. Minister of Defense Yuriko Backes represented the government at the commemoration ceremony held at Notre-Dame Cemetery, where she delivered a speech in honor of their sacrifice.
BETTEL INTERVIEW – In an interview with RTL Radio, Minister for Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel described the current global climate as one of "brutal" change, warning of the risks posed by unpredictable leadership and the erosion of decades-old international alliances. He highlighted concerns about US President Donald Trump's behaviour, noting that if Trump refers to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a dictator simply because Trump "did not get what he wanted", it demonstrates a level of harshness not previously seen during Trump's first term in office.
World
GERMANY ELECTIONS – The leader of the Christian Democrats in Germany, Friedrich Merz is preparing to start talks on forming a coalition government, after his conservative block came first in yesterday’s elections. The CDU and other mainstream parties have ruled out any cooperation with the far-right AfD which came second. Merz has said his top priority will be strengthening unity in Europe which he said was needed to achieve independence from the United States.
UKRAINE WAR – As Ukraine marks the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, President Zelensky will later convene a meeting with world leaders to rally support. Spain’s Prime minister and the European Commission’s President will join in person in Kyiv. EU Foreign ministers, including Luxembourg’s Xavier Bettel are meeting in Brussels where further sancitons against Russia will be discussed.
MACRON US – French officials say President Macron who will meet Donald Trump at the White House later today will use his unique relationship with the President to persuade him that Europe should be included in the talks to end the war in Ukraine. A number of European leaders have expressed concern after Trump made increasingly friendly overtures to the Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
POPE HEALTH – The Vatican says Pope Francis remains in a critical condition in hospital but hasn’t had any further respiratory attacks. On Saturday a statement said his condition had worsened and he had been given oxygen as well as blood transfusions.
GERMANY STRIKES – One-day warning strikes are leading to flight cancellations in the Cologne Bonn and Düsseldorf airports. In Cologne Bonn airport, the strike started last night and most scheduled flights have been cancelled. At the Düsseldorf airport, the strike started at 3am this morning.
SAG AWARDS – Timothy Chalamet has won Best Actor for his role as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown at the Screen Actors Guild Awards which are taking place in Los Angeles. Best actress went to Demi Moore for her performance in The Substance and Conclave won the outstanding performance award by a cast in a motion picture.
Sport
FOOTBALL – In the Bundesliga, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart drew 1-1. Earlier, Bayern re-established their eight-point lead with a 4-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
In France, PSG won 3-2 against Lyon.
In Spain, Real Madrid beat Girona 2-0.
And in England, Liverpool beat Manchester City 2-0.
In local football, following the 18th matchday in theBGL Ligue. Mondercange lost 4-2 to Hostert, Esch Jeunesse and Hesperange drew 3-3. Rodange lost to Dudelange 3-1, Wiltz beat Fola 4-1, Rosport drew with Niederkorn 0-0, Differdange beat Mondorf, 3-0 and Bettembourg lost 3-1 to Petange. Differdange maintains a 10-point lead over Dudelange in the table.
RUGBY – In a thrilling Six Nations weekend, double-defending champions Ireland maintained their Grand Slam bid by defeating Wales, England stayed in title contention by edging Scotland 16-15 and France have returned to form with a record 11 tries in Sunday's crushing 73-24 win over Italy.
SKIING – Mikaela Shiffrin, who on Sunday became the first skier to score 100 World Cup wins, admitted that she had questioned her decision to return to competitive skiing so soon after a serious crash in November. The 29-year-old American, who suffered an abdominal puncture wound in a crash in Killington in November, produced an epic performance in Sestriere to win Sunday's slalom as world champion Camille Rast skied out on the first run.
CYCLING – Tadej Pogacar has rounded off his overall victory of the UAE Tour with a solo stage win on the Jabel Hafeet mountain on Sunday.The 26-year-old swept all before him in 2024 taking a rare Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and world championships triple, and the UAE Tour was his first outing on 2025.
Weather
While the day starts off dry and cloudy, light rain is forecast from afternoon on. By the evening, and potentially continuing ‘til Tuesday, the weather will remain rainy and overcast.
But temperatures are staying pretty mild - the morning will be between 7-8°C. They will creep up to around 9–12°C by the afternoon.
