The family of Azaria, a 16-year-old football player who died in a tragic train accident in Leudelange on 6 August, is suing CFL, Luxembourg’s national railway company.
Azaria, a promising athlete who played for FC Luxembourg City, was struck and killed by a train on the evening of 6 August. Now, the family is seeking justice. According to L’essentiel, the family has initiated legal action, though a CFL spokesperson said the company has not yet been formally notified of any charges. “We have not received any information about a complaint”, the spokesperson said, adding that CFL will examine the allegations before issuing further comments.
In mid-August, the public prosecutor's office classified the incident as an accident, ruling out any external involvement. However, according to L'essentiel, many questions remain unanswered for the young man's family, particularly regarding safety around the station and the train that struck him.
Azaria’s father said the family remains deeply hurt that no CFL representative has reached out with personal condolences. They also stated they have yet to see any video footage of the incident, raising further questions about what exactly happened that evening.
One week after the incident, Doris Horvath, head of security, safety and the environment at CFL, addressed the tragedy on RTL Radio. She offered her condolences to the family and stated that the train was travelling at a permitted speed of over 100 km/h when it passed through the area. Azaria was reportedly struck while crossing the tracks near Leudelange station.
