The Blood Moon cast a dramatic red glow over Luxembourg, and readers shared striking photos of the rare eclipse with RTL.

On Sunday night, the sky treated stargazers to a rare spectacle as a total lunar eclipse turned the Moon a glowing shade of crimson. In Luxembourg, the phenomenon lasted until about 9.50pm and could be admired directly with the naked eye, its ghostly red glow drawing cameras skywards across the country.

A lunar eclipse occurs only during a full moon, when Sun, Earth, and Moon align. As Earth casts its shadow, sunlight bends through the atmosphere, scattering blue light and leaving only red wavelengths to illuminate the lunar surface. It is this effect that has sparked fascination and awe for millennia, giving rise to the term "Blood Moon".

The event was most striking in Asia, Africa, and Australia, but observers in Luxembourg still enjoyed a dramatic show as the Moon rose in eclipse. It was the first total lunar eclipse since March.

From the Schueberfouer, fields, and balconies, residents captured the moment in stunning photographs. Enjoy browsing through them in our gallery!
