Regional produceXavier Bettel visits asparagus field

RTL Today
Asparagus, strawberries, lettuces, potatoes, herbs - a number of delicious foodstuffs are grown and sold in the Grand Duchy.

It must be a good feeling for a farmer to know he has sold his wares before he has even begun production - this is the reality for a number of Luxembourgish enterprises. The Hoffmann family are no exception, boasting a partnership with Provençale. This business model helps to support regional production of foods such as asparagus, strawberries, lettuce, potatoes, herbs, and more.

Yves Hoffmann took over the farm from his father in January 2018, with the aim of maintaining and furthering a modern and diverse agricultural plan.

The young farmer said it was important to divide the business into different sections. If one crop is less plentiful one year, then the others provide a back-up plan to keep the business running.

Asparagus will be planted up until the 23rd June on the plateau above Hunsdorf, covering an area of 8 hectares. 2 further hectares are being prepared for the next few years.

On Thursday morning the prime minister visited a large asparagus farm near Luxembourg City, among others.
