On Friday morning, RTL reported that another member had left the Pirate Party, citing a Tageblatt article. According to the report, Morgan Engel, a municipal councillor from Differdange, resigned from the Pirate Party and joined the LSAP.
A few hours later, Pirate Party MP Marc Goergen posted on X, clarifying that while the LSAP had approached Morgan Engel, no formal agreement had been reached with the party leadership regarding a switch. As a result, Engel remains a member of the Pirate Party. The 27-year-old Engel, alongside Goergen, had co-led the Pirate Party’s southern list in the last parliamentary elections, finishing second and narrowly missing out on a parliamentary seat.
Tensions within the Pirate Party have been high due to ongoing disputes between MPs Marc Goergen and Sven Clement, along with the MALT affair. So far, four members have resigned from the party, including MP Ben Polidori and Marie-Marthe Muller, a former representative for the Pirates on Luxembourg City Council. Both Polidori and Muller have since joined the Socialists (LSAP).
