The smartwielen.lu website was accessed by around 50,000 people ahead of Luxembourg's legislative elections in October 2018. Now the platform has returned to give voters an overview of the European election candidates.

The website experienced an enormous amount of success in 2018, providing voters with insight on candidate policies that matched their own views.

On Tuesday, the Centre for Political Education (Zentrum fir politesch Bildung), the University of Luxembourg, and Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) announced that the platform would be accessible for the upcoming European elections.

On the website, voters answer a questionnaire concerning different realms and are then matched with different party candidates based on their compatibility with the candidates’ manifestos. The questionnaire is made up of 33 different statements and users are asked to gauge how much they agree with these statements.

The institutions involved in running the platform also confirmed that they had improved certain aspects of the website. The institutions made use of different targeted focus groups to create the questionnaire, notably young people, journalists, civil society actors, and interest groups.

Smartwielen.lu is available in several languages - Luxembourgish, German, French, English, and Portuguese.
