In September, the sixth accredited European School in Luxembourg, and the first in Luxembourg City, will open its doors.

On Wednesday morning, the École Internationale Gaston Thorn was officially presented on Geesseknäppchen. The school’s philosophy will be based on three pillars: Digitalisation, democracy, and music. Minister of Education Claude Meisch explained that during its meeting last Friday, the state council decided to name the new secondary school after Gaston Thorn.

Thorn was the first Luxembourger to become president of the European Commission but also served as the country’s prime minister in the 70s. As Prime Minister, Thorn worked to “modernise the country” and “adapt its society and economy to that of a modern society”, Meisch explained. In addition to European convictions, this will be the “spirit” of the new school, according to the Minister.

Students can enrol for the new school year from 1 March 2022. Information evenings are also planned on 3 and 4 March. Further details can be found on www.eigt.lu.
