Drunk drivingPolice withdraw licenses of 9 drunk drivers on Wednesday night

RTL Today
Police carried out many alcohol tests across Luxembourg on Wednesday night and many drivers mistook the imminent bank holiday with an excuse to get behind the wheel inebriated, it seems.

Following the order of the public prosecutor's office, the police carried out alcohol checks between 10.15pm on Wednesday and 2.30am on Thursday, on Rue des Aubépines in Merl, and on route d'Esch and avenue de la Liberté in Luxembourg City. 171 drivers were tested for alcohol. 7 tested positive, and 5 licences were removed on the spot.

The police were also busy elsewhere across the country. Alcohol tests were conducted between 11pm and 12.30am in Kockelscheuer. 98 motorists were checked, and while 3 were over the limit, none had to surrender their licence.

A further check was conducted between 1.30am and 3am in Schouweiler, with 53 drivers having their blood alcohol levels tested. 7 motorists had consumed more than the legal amount of alcohol allowed, and 2 licences were withdrawn.

Another drunk driver was relieved of his license around 1.20am in Bridel. And the same went for another driver shortly after 3am on rue Jean Wolter in Dudelange.

Unusual midnight cruise: 3 stopped on a scooter in the middle of the night

Around 3.30am, loud noise alerted officers to scooter carrying no less than 3 passengers between rue Kondel and avenue Charlotte in Differdange.

When they attempted to intercept the vehicle, two passengers fled. The third stayed close to the scooter. Police found that he was in possession of a small amount of drugs. They drew up a report and fined him. A patrol went in search of the two fugitives - without success.
