As part of the nationwide ‘Gutt Gesinn’ (well seen in Luxembourgish) road safety campaign, police conducted extensive traffic checks between 19 and 25 January.
The operation focused on two specific sections of the Highway Code: drivers’ visibility from their vehicles and adherence to right-of-way rules.
In total, officers issued 262 fines and 45 compliance notices (‘Rapports de Sommation’). Recipients of these notices were given a five-day period to rectify the violation and present their vehicle to police for inspection.
The most common infractions related to vehicle visibility and condition. Faulty lighting was detected on 162 vehicles, five drivers had insufficient visibility from their vehicle, and illegible number plates were found in 18 cases.
Significant right-of-way violations were also recorded. Officers fined 84 drivers for running a red light, 34 for ignoring a stop sign, and four for failing to stop at a zebra crossing for pedestrians or cyclists.
