Police were called to several incidents across the country over the course of Wednesday and into Thursday morning.
At around 6am on Wednesday, officers found a man on Rue de Strasbourg in Luxembourg City's Gare district who was bleeding heavily from his forearm. Police provided first aid and treated the wound before he was taken to hospital for further care. An investigation has been launched to establish what happened.
Later that evening, police were called out following a Luxembourg Cup qualifying match between Vianden and Reisdorf. After Reisdorf won the match 3–2, a fight broke out involving several players.
According to initial reports, two players became involved in an altercation after the final whistle, with one punching the other in the face. A third player then reportedly jumped at an opponent, striking him in the chest with the studs of his football boots and injuring him. Police have opened an investigation.
The same evening, a police patrol encountered an intoxicated person near the church in Bonnevoie. Officers said the man repeatedly moved closer to them despite being told to keep his distance. After he made a movement towards the officers with a clenched fist, he was taken into protective custody to sober up.
Shortly afterwards, police received reports of a fight involving three people on Route de Luxembourg in Dippach. One of those involved was later found near a shopping centre in Bertrange and was clearly heavily intoxicated, according to police.
He was described as uncooperative and displaying severe mood swings. After repeatedly staggering into the road and posing a danger to himself and others, he was also taken into protective custody. A police report was filed in connection with the fight in Dippach.
Another heavily intoxicated man was taken into protective custody during the night from Wednesday to Thursday near a nightclub on Avenue de la Faïencerie in Luxembourg City.
Police said he repeatedly interrupted and insulted officers while they were carrying out a procedure. He was also barely able to stand and had to undergo a medical examination.
