Whilst the importance of solar energy cannot be discounted, questions have arisen concerning the efficiency of photovoltaics.

In 2017, nearly 7,000 photovoltaic systems were installed in Luxembourg. At the time, solar power provided just 19% of renewable energy in Luxembourg. Now, this percentage is much higher.

Paul Kauten, an administrator for the "Energiepark" business, explained that there has been an increasing interest in people producing and using their own energy. He claimed that regulations are facilitating a likely boom both this year and next year.

One home in Beckerich has mostly been using solar energy over the course of the past year. Looking back at the year, 50% of the energy used by the building was generated by the solar panels, and the building produced 130%. The building also uses batteries in order to improve its output in an efficient manner, allowing the building to use solar energy at night.

There is also monetary motivation for people installing solar panels, namely feed-in tariffs. Residents feeding in excess energy into the local network are compensated monetarily. According to the Minister for Energy, Claude Turmes, these tariffs are set to increase by 10 to 20% next year.
