To put an end to lobbying and to fight against powerful multinationals and their privileges: these are some of the steps that Luxembourg's The Left hope to take - if voters put their trust in them in the upcoming elections.

Until now, the democratic socialist part has not managed to get any of its politicians into the European parliament. The party hopes that the tide will change on 26 May.

In their electoral programme, The Left put an emphasis on two major crises that are, in their eyes, currently haunting Europe: the ecological crisis on the one hand, and the social crisis on the other.

These two crises are also interconnected, the party's representatives explained. The party stressed that it was unacceptable that ecological transformation happens at the expense of those who are less well off.

The party's congress took place on Sunday. The programme for the European elections was accepted with 50 votes in favour and 5 abstentions.

The party's top candidates are David Wagner and Carole Thoma. Other candidates are Gary Diderich, Sandrine Gashonga, Mara Martins, and Antoni Montserrat.
