The government has appointed Corinne Schroeder to take over the post of director of the National Archives. She will succeed Josée Kirps when the latter enters retirement in November this year.
Schroeder holds doctorates in history, art and archaeology, and has worked as a curator at the National Archives since 2011. She has authored numerous scholarly publications, and has served as President of the Association of Luxembourg Archivists since 2017, as a member of the Archives Council since 2020, and as a full member of the Historical Section of the Grand-Ducal Institute since 2024.
Minister of Culture Eric Thill said:
"At a time when the reliability of information is a major issue for our societies, our National Archives play an essential role in guaranteeing the preservation, authenticity, and transmission of our documentary heritage. Thanks to her solid academic background, recognised expertise, and in-depth knowledge of the institution, Corinne Schroeder possesses all the qualities needed to guide the National Archives through their evolution and meet the challenges that lie ahead."
"I also wish to express my deep gratitude to Josée Kirps for her exemplary commitment and loyal service at the helm of the National Archives. I extend my sincerest thanks for the work she has accomplished in the service of our archival heritage and wish her a fulfilling retirement."
