On Thursday morning, the courts reached a verdict in a trial surrounding a fatal road accident that occurred in September 2017 between Bertrange and Dippach.

The defendant, whose blood alcohol level was measured at 2.2 grams, caused the accident by driving in the wrong direction. This caused him to crash into another car, and the impact of the crash made the second car swivel and then crash into a tree. A 22-year-old woman and 28-year-old man died as a result of the crash between Bertrange and Dippach. The defendant did not sustain any injuries.

The judge sentenced the defendant to a suspended two-year prison sentence, a two-year driving ban with an exception for the work-home commute, and a suspended 21-month driving ban. In addition, the defendant must pay eight civil parties a total of €160,000 in damages.
