European electionsMore than 18% of Luxembourg voters opted for postal ballot

RTL Today
In total, 284,810 citizens and residents have registered to vote in the upcoming European elections on 26 May. Compared to the previous elections of 2014, that number has risen by 20,000.

For the 2019 European elections, 53,712 voters requested a postal vote, corresponding to 18.9% of voters. In the previous European elections, only 5.5% of voters opted to receive a postal ballot.

As of the last legislative elections, voters are no longer required to provide a justification for voting by postal ballot. This in turn explains the rise in postal votes in both the European elections and the 2018 legislative elections: 15.77% of voters in the legislative elections opted to vote by post. The European election day also falls during the Pentecost half-term break, which means that many people may not be in Luxembourg to vote in person.

As a reminder for any readers who have opted to vote by postal ballot, your ballot must be at the polling station listed on the envelope by Sunday 26 May at the latest. It is also possible to personally bring your vote to the polling station before 2pm on said Sunday.
