Minister for Energy Claude Turmes provided a few additional details, but his general stance was that the government can only provide additional information on the planned data centre in Bissen's impact once the study on the environmental impact is available.
In terms of the data centre's water and energy consumption, Turmes had to refer back to the study which is due to be available at the beginning of 2020. He stressed that information on the temperature produced by the data centre will only be available once the study is published, and the same applies to the amount and way in which water will be used.
Minister of the Economy Etienne Schneider explained that in the event that the project does not come to fruition, the state can repurchase the land at the price it was purchased at by Google. Then, the plots can be used as an industrial zone.
The price paid by Google has been fixed and there will be no speculation rising the price, Schneider assured MPs.
A question also arose concerning the jobs created by the data centre, if all aspects of the project are approved. Schneider again assured MPs he will work alongside the National Employment Agency (ADEM) to find and train personnel from the country.
