Two students from Luxembourg stood out at the International Philosophy Olympiad held in Bari, Italy, this week.

Noémie Turquin and Viljami Viinamäki represented Luxembourg at the highest level during the International Philosophy Olympiad (IPO 2025), which took place in Bari, Italy. This year’s edition brought together 116 students and 150 philosophy teachers from a total of 55 countries.

The awards ceremony was held on Sunday morning, and the two students from Lycée Ermesinde, both 18 years old, made their mark. Noémie and Viljami took home silver and bronze, respectively.

Participants had four hours to write a philosophical essay based on a single quote from a well-known philosopher. The essays were then evaluated in two rounds by philosophy teachers, from which the final ranking would be decided.

Both students had qualified for the event through the Luxembourg Philosophy Olympiad, which took place on 7 February.
