During a routine check on the A6 motorway near Aire de Capellen in late April, customs officers stopped a German-registered vehicle carrying two Syrian nationals.

The officers, supported by a customs detection dog, discovered nine large cardboard boxes in the car. Upon inspection, they found 450 cartons of untaxed counterfeit Marlboro Gold cigarettes – totalling 90,023 individual cigarettes.

Authorities immediately seized the entire shipment. The case remains under investigation.
