Enrico Lunghi has been fined €8,000, while his wife, Catherine Gaeng, has received a 12-month suspended prison sentence and a €5,000 fine. The couple will also be required to pay damages.

They appeared before the Luxembourg City District Court on charges of handling stolen goods and breaching the secrecy of an investigation. In the context of the so-called RTL-Lunghi case, triggered by a controversial interview around ten years ago, the charge of handling stolen goods relates to confidential details of the investigation being made public in 2021 in Catherine Gaeng’s book Donc, nous avons menti au public (“So, We Lied to the Public” in English).

Excerpts from the investigation file were cited in the book while the inquiry was still ongoing.

Enrico Lunghi and his wife told the court that they had not intentionally broken the law.
