An accident on the A1 in the direction of Gasperich led to significant traffic delays near the Howald tunnel on Monday morning.

Traffic on the A1 heading towards Gasperich was severely disrupted on Monday morning, following an accident shortly before the Howald tunnel.

Whilst the resulting tailback stretched for 6km, reaching as far as the Gréngewald junction, at around 9.32am, authorities confirmed that the overtaking lane had been reopened and that traffic was slowly beginning to move again.

According to traffic updates provided by the Automobile Club of Luxembourg (ACL), the accident occurred between 8.30am and 8.40am.

The CITA traffic management centre reported at 8.46am that the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) was already at the scene, by which time the queue had reached 4km.

One person sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for a precautionary check-up, according to information from the scene.
