'D’Eselen aus der Sauerstad Dikrich' (The Donkeys from the city on the Sauer Diekirch) have organised the well-known carnival in the brewing town since 1978.

For the 58th time, a carnival is being held in the “donkey town”. Over a distance of two kilometres, 52 groups will pass by, either on foot or with decorated cars. Around 1,800 people are taking part in the procession. During the parade, about five tonnes of sweets will be distributed.

Last year, 40,000 carnival enthusiasts came to Diekirch to make sure they didn’t miss the event.

The first cavalcade in Diekirch was organised in 1870. Later on, in February 1978, the organising committee “D’Eselen aus der Sauerstad Dikrich” was founded, who remain responsible for organising the carnival today.
