Residents in the area around the Upper Sûre dam recently reported heavy moss growth on certain sections of the dam wall, raising concerns about potential cracks or sealing problems.
However, a spokesperson for the National Roads Administration Ralph Di Marco, confirmed to RTL on Wednesday that there are no cracks in the dam structure.
Di Marco explained that the moss and damp are caused by water seepage known as "drip marks" or water trickling at points where different parts of the concrete join together.
Such minor seepage is common in large-scale constructions like this dam and has occurred from time to time in the past.
According to the spokesperson, these small leaks have always resolved themselves over time and have not required intervention.
Maintenance would only become necessary if the seepage persisted unusually long on this occasion, in which case targeted repair work could be considered.
