The International School of Luxembourg (ISL) on Sunday celebrated the graduation of 114 students in a ceremony at the Grand Théâtre in Luxembourg City, marking a major milestone for the Class of 2025. The emotional and music-filled event was also a farewell to ISL director Dr DJ Condon, who retires this year after a long career in education.

In his final keynote address, Dr Condon encouraged students to embrace resilience and lifelong learning, offering each graduate a symbolic parting gift: a journal embossed with the ISL logo. Upper school principal Iain Fish opened the ceremony, welcoming attendees both in-person and online and describing it warmly as “the best and quite possibly the hottest day of the year”.

The celebration included musical performances by students, with renditions of Blómi and When We Were Young highlighting the school’s artistic spirit.

Student speakers Raphaëla Delattre and Jaron Shepro, both long-time ISL students, offered humorous and heartfelt reflections on their school experiences. Delattre, who received the ECIS Award for leadership and international understanding, urged classmates to stand up for what is right and promote inclusivity. Shepro encouraged peers to embrace reinvention and community as they begin new chapters in their lives.

The ceremony also recognised students who attended ISL from Grade 1 through 12, as well as individuals who demonstrated excellence in “academics, leadership, and school spirit”, according to a press release.

In his closing remarks, Mr Fish left graduates with a message of hope and purpose: “Be the people who ask better questions, who choose kindness when it’s unfashionable, who stay curious when it’s easier to be cynical. Be the ones who build bridges, not burn them.”
