At just shy of 170,000 people, under-25s make up 27.7% of the Luxembourgish population.

Ahead of International Youth Day: Under-25s a dwindling demographic: StatecThe rate of young adults who found a job in 2018 is relatively high: those having graduated secondary school had a rate of 78.5%, and the rate amongst uni graduates lay at 94%. Globally, it shows that those who have undertaken studies have a higher chance of finding a job. The overall rate for 2018 was 95.4%.

However, around 40% of young adults are on fixed-term contracts, which does not say much for job security. That number drops to 8% for those aged over 25. Many young people also tend to work part-time rather than full-time, in turn expressing higher levels of satisfaction with their leisure time.

Happiness and life satisfaction: 16-24 year olds 'happiest' in Luxembourg: StatecTwo-thirds of young people are considered economically inactive, given that these young people are usually studying or undergoing training. This could also have a knock-on effect on one of the other statistics, which is that people are tending to marry at a later age. Conversely, more women tend to marry young than men, but they also tend to have children at a later age. In 2000, 17% of women under the age of 25 had a child, but that figure has nearly halved by 2018 at 8%.

Healthy demographic, albeit with health issues

Luxembourgish young adults are revealed to be ahead in terms of health, as 87% of young adults confirmed they were healthy. Globally, this figure is as low as 66%. However, one health issue is especially present in the demographic, namely anorexia. The under-25 demographic has the highest rate of anorexia. This trend goes hand in hand with the fact that there are fewer children considered overweight.

Almost a third of young adults claim to drink alcohol at least once a week, and the relationship between driving and drinking is especially prevalent amongst young adults, given that under-25s make up 31% of accident fatalities.

Luxembourg: Drink-driving occurs mostly among 25-34 year-oldsNevertheless, young adults tend to take care to follow safety distances and priority rules in driving. Globally, young people in Luxembourg tend to have a positive experience.
