On the sixth day in court, the judges announced that the trial of a Luxembourg gynaecologist will be suspended following a new accusation of perjury filed by the defence.
Proceedings were set to continue on Wednesday with testimony from two presumed victims. However, at the session’s outset, the defendant’s lawyers submitted another complaint alleging a witness had committed perjury. This witness, a former short-term business associate of the defendant, had testified the previous day.
In addition to one of the presumed victims, the defence has now accused this former associate of lying under oath, alleging the individual authored a formal complaint for one of the other alleged victims based on similarities in writing style. Both the former associate and the presumed victim have denied this claim.
Despite the new allegation, the tribunal proceeded to hear testimony from two of the remaining women. One stated she had been afraid of the accused gynaecologist but continued to see him for examinations during her pregnancy and appears to have attended one further appointment postpartum. During questioning by the defence, the woman became nauseous, forcing a temporary interruption of the session.
The defendant faces charges of rape and sexual assault from four women, relating to alleged incidents between 2013 and 2018. The trial is scheduled to resume on Thursday for the testimony of the fourth and final alleged victim.
Following this testimony, the court will suspend the trial until the question of potential false statements can be resolved.
