Grand Duke Henri is a keen sports enthusiast and continues to stay active himself. In a podcast interview with German royal expert Annelie Malun, he spoke about how he maintains his fitness, and which parts of his body no longer cooperate quite as they once did.

Although his back and knees are not what they used to be, the Grand Duke said he still does his best to stay in shape. Speaking on Malun’s ARD podcast Annelies Royale Welt, he explained that he used to do a great deal of kitesurfing in addition to swimming. However, he admitted that the sport has become more difficult as his back has started to trouble him. Laughing, he attributed it simply to getting older.

Tennis, he added, is now a thing of the past, as his knees no longer allow him to play comfortably.

These days, Grand Duke Henri focuses on Pilates, which he says he finds very pleasant. He tries to practise once a week in order to maintain his muscle tone, the Grand Duke said.

During the podcast, the Grand Duke and Annelie Malun also discussed his broader commitment to sport and with whom he most enjoys skiing.
