The crash involved a car and a motorbike on the A8 and caused the death of the 13-year-old boy sitting on the back of the motorbike. The 37-year-old motorcyclist sustained serious injuries, his life remaining in the balance for some time. Whilst the man did not succumb to his injuries, the teenager died on the spot.

Following the collision, the motorist responsible for the crash drove off. Ten months later, the German authorities have not been able to find the person responsible for the hit and run. A witness statement claimed that the motorist may have had Luxembourgish number plates. The German police have asked their Luxembourgish counterparts for help in the investigation, but the vehicle has not yet been found in Luxembourg. The car in question is a light or white Mercedes.
