A routine traffic check turned violent in Luxembourg City’s Gare district early Sunday morning when a man attacked police officers attempting to control a parked vehicle. At around 6am, officers approached the car in question, which at the time was stationed on a pedestrian crossing and failed to move despite the traffic light turning green.
As they began questioning the three people inside, a man seated in the backseat began shouting insults at the officers. When they attempted to remove him from the vehicle, he responded with a series of kicks.
The driver eventually attempted to best the officers with a quick acceleration, but the car was promptly intercepted by another police unit nearby. During a second attempt to remove the aggressive passenger, officers again faced violent resistance.
All three occupants were eventually detained.
Authorities have filed complaints against the individuals for disobeying police orders, administrative violations, assault, rebellion, and verbal abuse. Due to their level of intoxication, they could not be questioned immediately but were issued summonses for further interrogation.
