After Félix Braz was replaced by Sam Tanson as Minister of Justice following his sudden illness last year, Etienne Schneider is next to leave government.
Schneider was one of the political figures who worked for the constitution of the three-way coalition of 2013 - DP, LSAP and the Green party. He has renounced his positions as Minister of Economy and Health and his post of Deputy Prime Minister. Schneider met with the Grand Duke at the Palace on Tuesday afternoon to submit his resignation.
At 2.30pm, Franz Fayot will be sworn in as a new member of the government by the Head of State. He will take charge of Economy and Cooperation. Paulette Lenert will become Minister of Health and Dan Kersch will be the new Deputy Prime Minister.
This handover of powers in the ministries will also take place on Tuesday. At the Ministry of Health at Villa Louvigny, the handover is scheduled for 3.30pm. An hour later, Etienne Schneider will hand over the keys to the Ministry of the Economy to Franz Fayot.
According to the LSAP statutes, by becoming a minister, Franz Fayot must renounce the presidency of the party. A new president must be appointed during a congress. For the moment, only MP Francine Closener has shown interest in the function.
On Tuesday the handover of powers to the Ministry of Cooperation will also take place. Finally, Socialist MP Cécile Hemmen will return to the House today too. The ex-mayor of Weiler-la-Tour, who arrived in fifth position on the Center's LSAP list, recovers the seat of Franz Fayot
