Government reshuffleSam Tanson becomes Minister of Justice, gives up Housing

The Green Party has undergone some changes to allow for deputy Prime Minister Felix Braz's ongoing recovery from a heart attack in August.

His fellow members of "déi Gréng" emphasised that Braz's condition was not only a difficult blow for his family, but also for his political party. Although Braz is slowly improving, he will not be returning to his position for the foreseeable future.

The Greens have consequently undergone a reshuffle to enable governmental work to continue. As one of the parties in government, the Greens decided to redistribute Braz's responsibilities to ensure they were continuing to deliver for the public, explained the party's co-president, Christian Kmiotek. It was impossible to put it off any longer.

Sam Tanson will assume the mantle of Minister for Justice, while maintaining her role as Minister for Culture. She will vacate the role of Minister for Housing.

The next Minister for Housing will be announced next week, with the replacement taking on responsibilities for the army and the police, thus supporting François Bausch.

Bausch will retain his responsibilities as Minister for Mobility, Public Works, Defence and Internal Security, and will also become deputy Prime Minister.

Carole Dieschbourg and Claude Turmes will remain in their current roles as Minister for the Environment and Climate and Minister for Spatial Planning and Energy.

The announcements were made on Wednesday morning at a press conference held by the Green Party presidents Djuna Bernard and Christian Kmiotek.

A congress is scheduled for 3 October at 7pm, to confirm the reshuffle and propose a member of the party for the Housing role.

Christian Kmiotek refuted claims that the party is in crisis, calling it a difficult moment, both emotionally and personally.

Questions on Roberto Traversini

Both party presidents fielded questions on Roberto Traversini, specifically whether he could remain a part of the Chamber and if he would be considered for government. Djuna Bernard replied that at this stage there were a number of arguments against it, although the process had only just begun. They would reevaluate the situation in line with the prosecutor's inquiry.

Further questions covered the so-called "garden shed" affair, and what impact this could have. Again, the presidents replied there were no new updates at this stage, as an investigation was underway and had been since before word of the affair reached the press.
