Esch Belval hosted an academic meeting on Tuesday evening, attended by Grand-Duc Henri, to mark the 20th anniversary of Centre François Baclesse.

The centre takes its name from the radiation specialist, born in 1896 in Bettembourg, who spent many years working at the Fondation Curie before his death in Paris in 1967.

The centre in Esch, which has obtained a solid reputation across the borders in the last two decades, offers treatment to all patients requiring radiotherapy. There is no other radiotherapy centre in the Grand Duchy.

An estimated 15,000 patients have been treated at the centre since its inauguration, with around 110 patients passing through its doors every day. The centre is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of 65 employees with specialised experience. As well as treatment, the centre also carries out clinical research.
