
The main elements of the new Covid law are the 2G regime for recreational activities and in the Horeca sector, as well as the mandatory Covid check for everyone at work from 15 January. The state council has yet to react to this.

The CSV has major concerns about the Covid situation in schools and wants to confront the minister again on Tuesday. Otherwise, Claude Wiseler sees the Covid law with the introduction of 2G and 3G rather positively. Above all, he praises the exemption for those who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons, who would have had extreme difficulties in a 2G system.

The CSV also gives its approval to the lists that a firm may draw up with people who voluntarily state whether they have been vaccinated or recovered, so that they do not have to show their certificate every day. However, it is not yet clear how long a vaccination certificate will be valid. Here, Luxembourg also depends on Brussels.
The Pirates would have liked to see a broader testing strategy in the current context. Much more testing would be needed, including vaccinated and recovered people. In the eyes of the Pirates, this law is a continuation of the policy as the government has done it so far. That would not be the worst policy, but one risks losing control over the Omicron variant in Luxembourg if one completely excludes vaccinated and recovered people from testing.

Mars di Bartolomeo said in an interview with RTL that the number of tests could be increased at any moment if the situation demanded it. Vaccination was an essential component in the fight against the virus, but would not be enough on its own. One should not think that vaccination offers an exemption from all safety measures.
