On Thursday, three incidents of fraud were reported at different locations across the country, with the perpetrators deploying similar tactics for each one. The incidents occurred in Sandweiler, Helmsange and Ernzen.

The perpetrators posed as couriers delivering packages, targeting older residents. On the doorstep, they claimed they could only hand over the parcel if the victim paid fees, following which the victim used their bank card and entered their PIN on a reader provided by the scammer. The perpetrators then swapped the card without the victim noticing, and later used the stolen cards to withdraw cash or to make payments.

If anyone is victim of such a scam, they should contact their local police station immediately. Police advise never to leave bank cards out of sight in such instances, and if there is any doubt about payment, do not complete the transaction. The public are advised to raise awareness among older relatives.

In other news, at around 4.10pm on Thursday afternoon, three work vans were broken into at a business in Huldange, with thieves taking tools from the vehicles. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
