The motto on Thursday afternoon was “be the solution, not the pollution.”

The young protesters came together outside Luxembourg’s Parliament in order to convince MPs to acknowledge urgent state of the climate.

The protest precedes a second large-scale environmental gathering scheduled for 24 May. Significant numbers of protesters will march to Place de l’Europe in Kirchberg as a successor strike to the climate march on 15 March.

The Left (déi Lénk) MPs requested a question hour surrounding climate change. The party has also submitted a resolution proposing that the Chamber of Deputies follow in the British Parliament’s footsteps and declare a “climate emergency”. In addition, the MPs recommended doubling the budgetary means dedicated towards measures against climate change as of 2020. MPs began discussing the motion as of 2pm.
