Bech saw significant changes to its local government in January, when a new council was installed. In a closed session, the council appointed Max Pesch as the new mayor. Norbert Classen retained his position as first councillor, while Jeanne (known as Bibi) Wintersdorf joined the board as second councillor. The new leadership received the backing of six out of nine council members.

These changes came in the wake of a turbulent period for the commune. At the end of December, the previous council led by mayor Jill Goeres was ousted through a motion of no confidence, following the rejection of the 2026 budget. In response, both Jill Goeres and Nathalie Wohlfart resigned from the council, prompting the need for by-elections, which took place on Sunday.

In the by-elections, Christian Turk received 275 votes and Rafael Fernandes 266, making them the top two candidates and securing their seats on the council. Jacques Schuler followed with 215 votes.

In the meantime, Emile Bohnenberger has also stepped down from the council. It remains unclear whether another by-election will be called; this decision will be made by the newly constituted council at its first meeting.
