Georges Wivenes, the current president of the state council, will step down on 31 March as his mandate will expire on that date. As the role will need to be replaced, there is speculation about Wivenes' successor.
According to RTL sources, the lawyer and former Democratic Party MP Agny Durdu will succeed Wivenes as president of the state council. Durdu currently holds the role of vice-president. Following the expiry of his mandate, Wivenes will likely remain councilor within the state council.
A further seat has been freed up as Mike Mathias, nominated by the Green Party, will move to the Ministry of Housing as a government adviser to Minister Sam Tanson. Mathias' replacement will be proposed by the government. Mathias succeeded Albert Hansen in the state council in 2014.
In autumn 2019, there will be yet another change within the state council. Second vice-president Romain Nati's mandate will expire after 15 years. This time, the Chamber of Deputies will propose a successor to Dr Nati.
