Using the fabricated endorsements of Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Finance Minister Gilles Roth, a fake RTL article is being used to lure victims into a cryptocurrency investment scam.
A fraudulent article impersonating RTL is again circulating online, falsely claiming that the Luxembourg government has launched a cryptocurrency investment platform named "TokenCore".
The fabricated story alleges that Prime Minister Luc Frieden unveiled the platform in an exclusive RTL interview, promising users a passive income by investing in an automated system that buys cryptocurrencies cheaply and sells them at a profit. The article makes the claim that a €250 investment could quickly generate a daily return of €7,000.
This is a known scam, and the public is strongly advised not to invest any money through the purported platform. The fake article is similar to other widely shared hoaxes in recent months.
A screen recording of the fake article was submitted to RTL by a reader:
After first appearing in late August, the deceptive website resurfaced on Wednesday. The new iteration features a photo of Finance Minister Gilles Roth to advertise the fraudulent scheme.
