Food safety is a top-tier priority for shoppers in Luxembourg, ranking third only behind a product's origin and price, according to the latest Eurobarometer results.
According to the latest Eurobarometer survey conducted by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), food safety is a primary concern for Luxembourg residents when grocery shopping, ranking as the third most important factor after a product's origin and its price.
The survey reveals strong public trust in food safety oversight. Eight in ten Luxembourg residents expressed confidence in their national authorities to protect them from food-related risks, while seven in ten trust the European authorities. This marks a significant increase of 7 and 10 percentage points, respectively, since the last survey in 2022.
This high level of awareness is reflected across the European Union, where over three-quarters of citizens understand that EU food safety decisions are based on scientific analysis. Nearly eight in ten believe that EU regulations effectively contribute to food safety.
Regarding specific concerns, the Eurobarometer indicates that microplastics are the foremost worry for Luxembourgers, cited by 47% of respondents. This is followed by pesticide residues in food (40%) and the use of food additives (38%).
