An agreement has been reached with the insurance company allowing works to begin soon, according to the mayor.
A year and a half ago, a fire broke out in the Junglinster town hall, leaving the building unusable. The municipality has since reached an agreement with its insurance company regarding the damage caused by the incident, Junglinster mayor Ben Ries confirmed in response to a question. A reconstruction project is now being prepared and should be finalised by December.
If approved by the municipal council, a tender will be drawn up. The aim is to publish the call for tenders by the end of spring, so that work can begin after the collective summer holiday.
According to internal estimates, the construction will take around two years. The exterior of the building will be rebuilt as it was before. “I am confident that we will be able to reopen the town hall by the end of 2028,” said Ries just in time for the end of the current legislative term.
The fire in late January 2024 started during insulation work under the roof of the town hall. Initially, the municipality had hoped to reach a lump-sum settlement with the insurers, which would have allowed for faster progress. However, the two offers received were unsatisfactory, the mayor explained.
