Mom Life in Luxembourg, is a weekly podcast dedicated to the pursuit of everything you need to know about raising kids and living your best life in the Grand Duchy – from crèches to crémant, we cover it all!
This week we are exploring a topic that could be overlooked in a lot of media – but with a divorce rate in Luxembourg that's higher than the European average (probably shouldn't be) – life as a single mom! And while all single mom stories are personal and unique, some themes resonate broadly.
My guest this week is Justina Radziewicz. Justina is Polish and moved to Luxembourg right before the Covid Pandemic started. Justina's story is one of incredible resilience, navigating cultural shifts, personal challenges, and the demands of motherhood across two countries. Join us as we delve into her captivating experiences, highlighting the triumphs and struggles that define her path.
For Justina, life in Luxembourg began as a leap of faith. It was actually her ex-husband's job that brought her here. Yes, you read that right. She moved to Luxembourg with her ex-husband, his new wife, and their daughter. She had to secure a job and find an apartment on her own, speaking none of the official languages. Her story is a testament to the strength it takes to embrace change and seek better opportunities for one's children. Her main motivation was the education here in Luxembourg with multiple language opportunities.
Justina's beginning in Luxembourg was far from smooth. Rock bottom hit with a deep depression when she found herself single with a newborn and a four year old daughter from a previous marriage. Amidst job changes and family dynamics, Justina battled harsh experiences that tested her mentally, physically and emotionally.
Through therapy and self-reflection, she emerged stronger, realising the importance of self-care – not just for herself, but for the well-being of her children. We also talk about how cultural norms and expectations from home can really affect the quality of your life even after you move geographically away from that culture.
If you want to hear specifics of Jusinta's journey – and how she turned depression around and now works at her dream job in Luxembourg (and loves living here!) – you’ll need to tune in to the whole episode.
