
Luxembourg received fewer asylum applications in September 2025 compared with both 2024 and 2023, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In September 2025, Luxembourg received 154 applications for international protection, 23 fewer than a year ago and 89 fewer than in September 2023. So far this year, a total of 1,332 people have submitted applications, compared with 1,308 during the same period in 2024 and 1,739 in 2023.
Most applications in September came from Eritrea (57), followed by Venezuela (14) and Sudan (9). Other applicants came from Afghanistan, Algeria, Syria, and Zimbabwe (6 each), as well as North Macedonia and Morocco (5 each). Another 40 applications came from unspecified countries.
For the year to date, the majority of applications have come from Eritrea (250 people, 19.5%), Syria (158, 11.9%), and Algeria (73, 5.5%).
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported 119 applications for temporary protection in September, of which 111 were from Ukrainians. So far this year, Luxembourg has received 781 applications for temporary protection, including 713 from Ukrainians.
