Prime Minister Luc Frieden revealed the first multi-million-euro contracts for the recent change of throne celebrations during a parliamentary session Tuesday.

The first financial details of the celebrations for Luxembourg's change of throne have been revealed. During a parliamentary question session on Tuesday, Prime Minister Luc Frieden announced that more detailed figures will be presented in the coming days.

While the total cost remains unknown, the Prime Minister affirmed his commitment to transparency and disclosed the value of two major contracts.

Den Atelier received approximately €4 million for the spectacle on the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge and at Glacis. An additional €3 million was paid to BCE for the production and live broadcast of the historic event, which Prime Minister Frieden noted garnered significant international interest.

The questions prompting these disclosures were submitted by Green Party (Déi Gréng) MP Sam Tanson and Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) MP Taina Bofferding. Separately, the Mayor of Luxembourg City, Lydie Polfer, stated that the municipality's expenses for the celebrations will be specified at the next municipal council meeting on Monday.

'I am a feminist'

In an unrelated development before the session, the Green Party distributed pins bearing the inscription "Ech si Feminist" ("I am a feminist"). The move was a clear response to a recent opinion piece by Democratic Party (DP) MP Gérard Schockmel, who sharply criticised feminism and reiterated his opposition to enshrining abortion rights in the constitution.

According to Tanson, nearly all MPs accepted a pin. The pins were visibly worn during the session by MPs from the Green Party and the LSAP, as well as several members of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) and one MP each from the DP and the Pirate Party.
