A 39-year-old Portuguese man wanted in Luxembourg for the sexual assault of two minors has been arrested in Bilbao, Spain, after eight years on the run.

A 39-year-old Portuguese man accused of sexually assaulting two minors in Luxembourg has been arrested near Bilbao after eight years on the run.

Spanish National Police detained the suspect under a European Arrest Warrant issued by Luxembourg, with the operation carried out by a specialist unit tracking fugitives subject to international warrants.

The man, accused of offences against two relatives, had been evading Luxembourgish justice since 2017. He appeared in court in Spain and was released on bail pending extradition proceedings, on condition that he reports regularly to local police.
