Accessing online banking through search engine links could put your finances at risk, Luxembourg police warn after detecting a surge in related phishing scams.
Luxembourg police have issued a warning after being alerted to multiple cases of online banking users falling victim to fraudulent websites designed to mimic legitimate banking portals. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution when accessing online banking services.
"The victims typically accessed these fake sites by searching for their bank online and clicking on the displayed link", police explained. The fraudulent portals are carefully crafted to appear genuine, tricking users into entering sensitive login information.
Police emphasise that online banking should always be conducted either via the bank's official mobile application or the official website address – ideally via a saved link or by manually entering the correct address.
Authorities reccomend saving the official online banking URL as a bookmark in your browser to avoid accidental access through search engine results.
Police specifically called on the public to educate older relatives and acquaintances about this scam technique.
