Two suspects have been arrested following an early morning arson attack that destroyed five vehicles in a Bascharage car park on Tuesday.

Early Tuesday morning, a suspected arson attack destroyed multiple vehicles in a public car park in Bascharage.

The Kaerjeng-Pétange fire brigade was called to the scene at around 3.20am after several parked cars caught fire. According to Romain Haas, chief of the fire and rescue corps, the blaze likely started in one vehicle before spreading to others nearby.

Police confirmed the incident as criminal in nature, stating that initial findings point to arson. Three cars were completely destroyed by the flames, while two others sustained severe damage.

Authorities identified three suspects in the area during their investigation. Two of them were arrested on the order of the public prosecutor's office and were scheduled to appear before an examining magistrate on Tuesday afternoon.

In other news from Luxembourg emergency services on Monday, firefighters extinguished a chimney fire at a residence on Rue Charlotte Engels in Eich shortly before 8pm. No injuries were reported.

Separately, following a two-car collision on Route d'Arlon in Niederfeulen around 7.30pm, one injured person was transported to A&E by the Nordstad ambulance service.
