The organisation ProVelo kicked off European Mobility Week on Tuesday by distributing 250 croissants to cyclists in Luxembourg City.

To mark the start of European Mobility Week, the organisation ProVelo spent Tuesday morning distributing 250 croissants to cyclists in Luxembourg City as a thank you for choosing to cycle to work.

The "Kaddo fir e Vëlo" ("Gift for a Bicycle") campaign, supported by the Luxembourg City council, served as the unofficial kickoff for a week of mobility-focused events in the capital and other municipalities.

The event highlighted differing perspectives on the city's cycling progress. Patrick Goldschmidt, a member of the city's municipal executive board ("Schäfferot"), pointed to the many cyclists who passed the stand as evidence that the council's investments in cycling infrastructure are "bearing fruit".

In contrast, Monique Goldschmit, President of ProVelo, argued that this is only partly true, stating that significant room for improvement remains and that the city lacks a clear vision for mobility. In response, Patrick Goldschmidt reiterated that the council is working "intensively" on a plan to reduce car usage to below 50% of all mobility in the capital, with public transport, cycling, and walking intended to make up 51%. This formal plan, developed with an external consulting firm, is scheduled for presentation in the coming weeks.

ProVelo celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2025, with festivities beginning this weekend.

A symposium will be held in Esch-sur-Alzette on Thursday, followed by guided bicycle tours on Saturday and a large cycling festival at the Gëlle Fra monument on Sunday. ProVelo sees this festival as a complementary event to the arrival of the Tour de Luxembourg at the Glacis.
