The iconic Waldhaff bar-restaurant, which closed in 2018, is set to make a comeback after Niederanven municipality selected a winning design to transform the site into a modern Luxembourgish brasserie.
The bar-restaurant Waldhaff, which was forced to close in autumn 2018 due to the illegal construction of a terrace, is set to be revived.
The municipality of Niederanven acquired the property from the state in 2023 as part of a land exchange deal involving plots now used for the police building along Route de Trèves.
At the time of the acquisition, local authorities expressed their intention to breathe new life into the iconic site. They launched a call for projects aimed at creating a classic Luxembourgish brasserie that would harmonise with the surrounding green area.
A year later, the competition results have been announced. On 6 February, the winning proposal for the Waldhaff project was unveiled.
Three teams advanced to the second phase of the tender process, with their submissions undergoing detailed evaluation by a selection committee. The committee included representatives from local authorities, experts, members of the hospitality industry, and the National Institute for Architectural Heritage.
The competition was ultimately won by Fabeck Architectes - Schroeder & Associés - Goblet Lavandier & Associés.
It is expected that the bar-restaurant will reopen its doors in early 2028.
